Emma Farrell, Six Foot High Films: “The Miglia DualDisk is an essential tool and asset for any film editor, holding vast amounts of data and working incredibly fast. It looks really cool too!”

Overview

Over the past year, Celador Films has been in production of one this year’s hot horror movies – The Descent - www.thedescentthemovie.co.uk Bellwood Media was employed by them to seek out the best products in the marketplace that could be used in the production of the film, both onscreen and off.
However, whilst production for The Descent was going on at Pinewood Studios in England, a documentary on the production of the movie was also being filmed in the background.

Filmed solely by Emma Farrell of Six Foot High Films, Emma’s task was to capture the behind-the-scenes footage for the DVD extra’s when the film is released on DVD later in the year as well as directing the formal interviews for the electronic press kit, released to all media prior to the films release.

The issue

Although a great opportunity for Emma, the filming did present a couple of production issues.
The first issue was that an enormous amount of footage had to be captured. Because Emma was filming in the background almost constantly to capture the essence of the filming, it meant that a device had to be obtained that could cope with the sheer volume of footage that had to be dumped and stored each night after filming.
The second issue was that once footage had been captured, Emma had to have easy access to the data as in order to then create the DVD extra film, a large amount of searching and editing of the data would have to be done each night and after filming.

The solution

With these issues in mind, Emma had to go about finding a solution that could solve these challenges.

Following a quick scan of the market, Emma contacted Miglia Technology as it a product that looked like it was the answer – The Miglia DualDisk.

Miglia's DualDisk was the ideal solution for Emma as it has been built with her issues in mind. Firstly, a large amount of storage, and secondly an impressive data transfer rate so customers can then get access to the data they have captured on the device.

Emma continued: “DualDisk was used to hold the footage from the behind the scenes documentary for the film 'The Descent' and all the edits of the footage. The unit saved us time because we could hold all the info on one disc and it worked fast so we didn’t have to wait ages for commands to be executed.”

The Future

“Overall DualDisk exactly suited our requirements. It was light, portable, fast and storage capacity was great. In regards to future projects, as a filmmaker I would certainly use the unit again.” concluded Emma.

About ‘The Decent’ - http://www.thedescentthemovie.co.uk
In a remote mountain range, six female friends meet for their yearly adventure, a caving trip into the arteries of the earth. The group makes their way through the remote cave system, enjoying the hazardous but beautiful surroundings. Then, deep inside the cave, disaster strikes when their route back to the surface is blocked by a rockfall. When they learn that Juno, always pushing herself that little bit further, has brought them to an unexplored cave, and that no one is coming to rescue them, the group starts to splinter. But left with no option, they push on through the cave, praying for another exit.
The women battle through this harsh underground world, pitting their strength and determination against each new challenge. But there is something else lurking under the earth, a race of monstrous creatures hidden from the light, devolved to perfectly live in the dark… As the women realize they have become prey, they are forced to unleash their most primal instincts to face the creatures. But, as old wounds break open and loyalties disintegrate, the women realize the horrible truth—that they have most to fear from one another.
