TVMini² FAQ
Software Activation Issues:
Q: When I try to activate the software, I get a message that the connection times out
A: Please check that:
- Safari is set to accept cookies. (Safari > Preferences > Security). You must do this even if you use Firefox or another browser
- You can access http://www.equinux.com/store using Safari. If you cannot access this page, check that the date on your computer is correctly set as this is required for the security certificates to be validated.
TV reception issues:
Q: I run the channel scan, but no channels are picked up. What should I do?
A: Check the following:
- Verify that you live in an area covered by digital terrestrial signals. TVMini2 will only pick up this type of signal.
- If you are using the portable antenna, move it closer to a window. In many areas of the UK or France, the signal levels are not sufficient to provide reception with a portable antenna; in this case, try to connect TVMini2 to a roof-top antenna instead.
- If you are using a roof-top antenna, verify that no signal amplifiers or boosters are connected. Signal amplifiers also increase analogue TV signals, creating a lot of 'noise' rendering reception of digital TV more difficult. Signal amplifiers/boosters often have an ON/OFF switch.
- If you are using a cable splitter (one connection in, several connections out), try to bypass it. Splitters will reduce the level and quality of the signal, often causing reception issues.
- If you are using a roof-top antenna, try another good quality coaxial cable (that's the TV cable that goes from the antenna outlet in the wall to your TVMini2). Bad quality cables/connectors have a dramatic impact on reception quality
Q: I do not have a roof-top antenna and cannot receive a signal with the portable antenna. Is there a solution?
A: You can try a portable amplified antenna. These will need to be connected to a power outlet and MUST BE digital-only antennas. This kind of antenna is available from most electronic retail stores.
Q: There are a lot of artifacts or 'squares' on the picture
A: This is either due to bad reception (see above on how to resolve this) or lack of CPU power. If you are running a G4 Mac, try to turn off Timeshift and De-interlacing.
Q: I have connected TVMini2 to my digital set top box and ran a channel scan. No channels were found.
A: This is normal. The signal that a digital set top box will output is analogue, and not digital terrestrial. Connect TVMini2 to the portable antenna or a roof-top antenna instead.
Working with Recordings:
Q: I have tried to open a recorded file (.ttrec) in iMovie or another application, but I get an error message and the file is not accepted
A: Recordings have to be exported first in order to make them compatible with other applications. Select your recording in The Tube and go to File > Export and choose the format you wish to change the recording to.
