TVMicro FAQ

This FAQ covers general questions about TVMicro

Q: What are the minimum system requirements for TVMicro?
A: A Mac with a G4/500 (or faster) processor or Intel processor, built-in USB 2.0 connectivity, Mac OS X 10.4 and higher. TVMicro cannot run on Mac OS 10.3.9 or lower.

Q: Can I run TVMicro on a USB 1.1 bus?
A: No, the bandwidth provided by USB 1.1 is not sufficient to run TVMicro.

Q: What is the difference between TVMicro and other analog TV products like TVMax?
A: The key difference is software compression. TVMicro relies on the CPU of your Mac to encode the incoming video stream (eg. the TV show you want to record) to save it to your hard drive. Other products like TVMax feature video encoding chips that take care of the video encoding, thus greatly reducing the load on your Mac's processor. In short, TVMicro is a quick and easy solution to watch TV, but it will not replace your VCR.

Q: Can I convert VHS tapes to DVD with TVMicro
A: It's possible, but you will get better results with a hardware-encoding product like TVMax.

Q: Does TVMicro work in the USA?
A: Yes.

Q: What TV standards does TVMicro Support?
A: PAL I, PAL D/K, PAL B/G and NTSC M. Please be aware that TVMicro does not Support SECAM, used in France and eastern European countries. TVMicro does not Support PAL-M used in Brazil or PAL-N used in Argentina (there are currently no plans to add PAL-M/N Support).

Q: What format does TVMicro use for recording?
A: TVMicro records in MPEG-1 or MPEG-2, depending on the setting you chose in the software.

Q: Does TVMicro Support Timeshift?
A: Only when recording.

Q: Where do I connect my antenna cable to TVMicro?
A: At the back of the unit. An adapter is included in the packaging.

Q: Does TVMicro Support HDTV broadcasts?
A: No. If you are looking for an HDTV solution, TVMini HD is the right choice.

Q: Is an EPG available for Canada?
A: The EyeTV software bundled with TVMicro does not Support a Canadian EPG servive out of the box. A third-party utility is available that will provide EPG data to Canadian customers. Please note that we do not provide technical Support for 3rd party utilities.
