Serial Number issues
Q: MigliaTV does not recognise the activation code
A: Make sure you enter the activation code provided on
the QuickStart Guide or the CD-Sleeve and not the hardware
serial number.
If you get a message saying the activation code is partially
recognised, check that you have not entered a 'i' instead
of a '1' or a 'B' instead of a '8' (and vice-versa).
If you have lost your software activation code, please
contact technical support.
Initialisation Errors
Q: I have installed the latest MigliaTV version
and when I launch the software, it stays indefinitely
on the 'Initialising Hardware' screen
A: Usually, the initialisation process will take
about 3 to 5 seconds. If the initialisation does not proceed,
try this:
- Make sure your TVMax+ is connected to
a USB 2.0 port and the power supply. You should see a
green light on the lower left side of the TVMax+ (the
bigger 'hole' on the front of the unit is where the IR
receiver is located, there is no activity light there)
- Quit MigliaTV. Unplug the power cord from
TVMax+ and wait 10 seconds then plug the cable back in.
Relaunch the software. Unplugging the power cable will
reset the unit.
- Try to use another USB cable and please
ensure you are connecting TVMax+ to a built-in USB 2.0
port on your Mac (do not connect to a keyboard, hub or
PCI card).
- Check the software installation is correct.
In Mac HD/Library/QuickTime, you should have a 'MigliaTV.component'
file (if you have EvolutionTV.component or TVMaxPlus.component,
move them to the trash). In Mac HD/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/HAL,
you should have 'MigliaTVHALPlugIn.plugin' ((if you have
EvolutionTVHALPlugIn.plugin or TVMaxPlusHALPlugIn.plugin,
move them to the trash).
Never install an old software version over the current
MigliaTV.
- Delete the preference files. Go to <your
username>/Library/Preferences and delete the files
and the folder that start with 'de.meilenstein.xxx'. Then
relaunch the software. Before doing this, ensure you have
your software activation key ready as you will need to
re-enter it.
- In Mac HD/Library/QuickTime, verify you
do not have 'TrinityVDIG.component'. This component used
by the MyTV system clashes with the MigliaTV software.
- Perform a full uninstallation by using
this AppleScript.
Before running this script, ensure you have your software
activation key ready as it will need to be re-entered.
Once you have uninstalled the software, reinstall the
latest update available from the download page.
Q: When I try to open the TV window or the Video
panel in the Preferences, I get an error message saying
that all video inputs are in use.
A: This error message can appear if the software is not
properly installed or the unit is no longer connected
to your Mac. Try the following:
- Unplug the power cord from TVMax+ and
wait 10 seconds then plug the cable back in. Relaunch
the software. Unplugging the power cable will reset the
unit.
-

Q: When I open the MigliaTV Preferences,
I can only see the Storage tab. The Video Input and Plug-ins
tab are not visible
A: Delete the preference files. Go to <your username>/Library/Preferences
and delete the folder that starts with 'de.meilenstein.xxx'.
The file with the same name located in the Preferences
folder contains only the serial number information and
will not need to be deleted.
TV Reception, Channel Line Up
Q: (US users only) I entered my
ZIP code in the Setup Assistant, but I get the message
that no Providers could be found
A: Make sure you selected the correct type of provider
(Antenna for Broadcast, Cable for cable services). If
no information is available, skip this step and move to
the channel scan.
Q: (US users only) The channels
are not lined up properly
A: Make sure that the option 'Use channel name as index'
is activated in the preferences
Q: I use digital cable or satellite.
How should the connection be made to TVMax+?
A: If you are using digital cable/satellite or have subscribed
to premium content channels, you will need to connect
TVMax+ via the cable/satellite set top box. If you use
a coaxial cable, perform a channel scan and TVMax+ will
find the channel on which your cable set top box broadcasts
a signal. For best picture quality, use the S-Video connection
if available on your digital receiver box.
Q: What PAL video standards does
TVMax+ support? Will it work in Brazil or Argentina?
A: TVMax+ supports PAL I, B/G, D/K. PAL M and N used in
Brazil and Argentina are not supported.
Video Capture
Q: How do I capture video from
a VCR or DVD player?
A: Hardware Connection:
First, connect your video source to TVMax's input
at the back of the unit.
Video connection:
You can use a Composite cable (yellow) or an S-Video
cable (black) to transfer the video from your
VHS/DVD player to TVMax.
Audio connection:
Connect an audio cable from the video source to
TVMax, these are usually cables with red and white
ends.
Always make sure you use the OUT connectors on
your VHS/DVD player!
SCART connection:
If your VCR only has a SCART output (called Peritel
in France), make sure you use a SCART-to-Composite
cable equipped with an IN/OUT switch. The switch
must be set to OUT and the SCART cable must be
plugged into an SCART socket that has 'OUT' written
next to it.
IMPORTANT: SCART-to-S-Video cables
will usually give you only a black&white picture
as most SCART connectors built-into VCRs do not
support S-Video signals.
Once you have connected the Composite end to TVMax+,
connect the red/white audio cables.
Software settings:
When importing video, the first question you need
to ask yourself is what you are going to do with
the footage? Burn it to DVD, use it with an Apple
TV or an iPod or keep it on your hard drive?
This choice will determine in what video format
you need to record your file in.
Go to Preferences, click on Video Input, then
Compression. On this panel, you can choose the
type of format.
DVD Burning:
Select DVD Full Size (or half size if you want
to save space at the expense of quality) if your
final goal is to burn a DVD readable by most home
DVD players.
DivX DVD:
Select this option if you have a DivX-compliant
DVD player. This is usually reserved for more
advanced users.
Apple TV:
Select this option if you want to play back your
video content on an Apple TV.
iPod Small/Best:
This option lets you create videos for iPod with
video.
Once you have selected the right format, click
OK to exit the Preferences.
Now, you must select your video
input, according to how your equipment is connected
at the back of TVMax+. Go to Controller > Video
Input and select either Composite or S-Video.
Q: I have connected a SCART-to-S-Video cable and I am only getting a black &
white picture.
A: Most SCART connectors support RGB and Composite, but not S-Video.
However, some devices have a built-in menu that let you switch to S-Video
output over SCART. IF your video source does not have such a capability and
has no S-Video OUT, you have two options:
- Use a SCART-to-Composite cable
- Use a RGB to S-Video converter . Converters are not simple cables
and tend to be fairly expensive but pro. They do provide a higher quality
than SCART-to-Composite cables.
Issues with Recordings
Q: When I launch a recording, the TV window zooms
into the top quarter of the screen
A: This is a known issue with MigliaTV 1.1.1 that will
occur if Picture Optimisation is set to none. Simply raise
the level of Picture Optimisation by using the Controller
menu to resolve this problem. The next release of MigliaTV
will include a fix for this particular issue.
Q: I am trying to playback a DivX
file I recorded with TVMax+, but QuickTime player is unable
to open the movie file. Why?
A: You need to install the DivX coded (http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
) in order to playback DivX files.
Q: I am trying to playback video
recorded in MPEG-2, but QuickTime player is unable to
open the movie file. Why?
A: QuickTime Player requires the MPEG-2
Component to playback video files recorded in MPEG-2.
However, you can also use VLC
Player, which is free of charge.
Q: When I try to open a file recorded
with MigliaTV in iMovie HD, I get an error message stating
the file cannot be read.
A: Your file probably has an '.mpg' extension and has
been recorded in MPEG-2 format. iMovie is not able to
read or edit MPEG-2 files. It is recommended to use the
MPEG-4 for iMovie HD setting instead.
Q: When I open a file recorded in
the MPEG-4 for iMovie HD format, a very long conversion
process takes place.
A: Close the project and create a new one. Select 'MPEG-4'
as the format and not DV. As iMovie defaults to a DV project
you always need to verify the correct setting (eg. MPEG-4)
before creating the project.
