Catalyst ATA/FW KIT FAQ

This FAQ covers general questions about Catalyst ATA/FW KIT

Q: Will the converter work when connected to a PC or a Mac?
A: Yes. The Catalyst ATA/FW Kit can be connected to a Mac running OS 9.1+/Mac OS X or a Windows PC (98SE and higher)

Q: Why isn't Mac OS 8.6 Supported?
A: Mac OS 9.1 offers built-in Support for FireWire hard drives, which is not the case for Mac OS 8.6. You will need third party drivers like Charismac Anubis to be able to access your hard drive. Miglia does not Support any installation on a system running a version of Mac OS earlier than 9.1.

Q: How many SCSI devices can I connect to the converter?
A: None. The kit will convert your old SCSI case into an ATA/FW case, making it identical in functionality to any FireWire hard drive case on the market. You will no longer be able to use your existing old SCSI hard drives. These will be replaced by bigger and faster ATA drives.

Q: How many drives can I connect to the converter?
A: You can connect one or two hard drives. The converter Supports Master/Slave mode and ships with an ATA cable that has three connectors (one for the converter, two for drives).

Q: Can I connect optical devices like CD-ROMs or CD-RW's?
A: Yes. You might however have to use a third party driver (Toast or Discribe extensions or CD SpeedTools) to be able to use your device.

Q: Does the converter Support ATA/6 hard drives?
A: Yes. Drives larger than 137 GB (128 GB formatted) are recognised and fully usable.

Q: I moved a drive installed in my Mac or PC to my converted SCSI case. Will I need to reformat the drive?
A: Most likely not. If the drive was formatted/initialised when connected to the internal bus or a standard ATA card, it will be recognised when attached to the converter.

Q: Can I perform an internal installation with the converter?
A: Yes. The converter has a power cable adapter to allow you to power it with a standard hard drive cable. You might have to do some manual adjustements to install the kit inside your computer.
